Tragedy in Kano: Governor’s Aide Killed in Brutal Machete Attack

Senior Aide to Kano Governor Dies After Brutal Home Invasion

A senior media aide to the Kano State Governor, Sadiq Gentle, has tragically lost his life following a violent home invasion allegedly carried out by unidentified assailants.

Gentle, who served as a Senior Special Reporter in the Ministry of History and Culture, passed away in the early hours of Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital. He had been battling severe injuries sustained during a machete attack at his residence several days earlier.

In response to the incident, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has ordered an immediate investigation and tasked security agencies with tracking down those responsible for the attack.

The governor, in a condolence message released by his spokesperson Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, mourned Gentle’s death, calling it a devastating blow to both the state and the media landscape.

“I am heartbroken by the loss of Malam Sadiq Gentle,” the governor said. “He was a principled and peace-loving professional, whose service to the state was marked by honesty and commitment. His violent death is both shocking and deeply painful.”

Governor Yusuf condemned the killing as a “heinous and cowardly act”, emphasizing that such brutality has no place in Kano or anywhere in the country.

He further expressed deep sympathy to Gentle’s family, colleagues, and friends, assuring them of the government’s support and commitment to justice.

“The government of Kano State stands firmly with the bereaved during this dark time. We will not rest until those responsible are brought to justice,” the governor added.
