Residents Rescue Abandoned Newborn Girl in Nasarawa, Mother in Police Custody
A newborn baby girl was miraculously found alive after being abandoned in a bush near Hope Academy Primary School in Akwanga, Nasarawa State.
The infant was discovered on the morning of Wednesday, September 10, 2025, by concerned residents in the A.A. Koto area — a well-known part of Akwanga town. Community members quickly intervened and ensured the child was brought to safety.
Preliminary investigations point to a young woman, reportedly a final-year student at the College of Education in Akwanga, as the baby’s mother. She is believed to have left the child in the bush shortly after birth.
Authorities confirmed that the woman was traced and arrested with the assistance of her peers, including classmates and close acquaintances. She is now in police custody as investigations continue.
