Akure Locals Foil Early Morning Break-In, Subdue Suspect Allegedly Targeting Female Residents

Tensions ran high on Aratunsi Street in the Oke Aro area of Akure as community members apprehended a man in the early hours of Monday, June 30, 2025, following an alleged break-in and attempted sexual assault.

The incident reportedly occurred around 4:30 a.m., when the man—believed to be in his 40s—allegedly forced his way into a residence shared by young women. According to residents, his intentions appeared to include both theft and assault.

The drama unfolded when the occupants of the house woke up and cried out for help, sparking an immediate response from neighbors. Local youths were quick to intervene, chasing down and capturing the intruder before he could escape.

In a display of community justice, the suspect was restrained with ropes and tied to an electricity pole as angry residents gathered, awaiting law enforcement’s arrival.

Eyewitnesses said the man claimed to hail from Ekiti State, though his identity and background had not been officially confirmed at the time this report was compiled.
