The Federal Government has raised alarm over what it described as the rising wave of indecent “sign-out” practices among students in both secondary and tertiary institutions nationwide.
At a public sensitization forum on government programmes, the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, called for stronger collaboration between parents, schools, and community leaders to discourage the unhealthy culture.
Speaking through the Agency’s Director of Human Resources, Mrs. Ayisola Olowoyo, Issa-Onilu explained that the so-called “sign-out” celebrations are increasingly being used as an excuse by students to engage in unruly and immoral behaviour. He emphasized that curbing the excesses requires collective vigilance and responsibility from all stakeholders.
“The Federal Government is concerned with the growing trend of immorality among students across the country. Celebrating success is good but for young people to start immorality, exposing and touching private parts within educational institutions, against national values.
One of the reasons the Federal Government would be launching national charter is to instil discipline and values in our daily lives across all sectors.
Parents and school administrators should also take serious steps towards cautioning their children and students from immorality, especially in schools.” he said
