The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down a clandestine herbal medicine plant operating illegally in Kaduna State.
The factory, identified as SHIFA’UNNUR and situated in Mararaba Jos, Igabi Local Government Area, was raided by officials led by Principal Regulatory Officer, Mr. Shamsuddeen Mani. He explained that the outfit was neither registered with NAFDAC nor compliant with the basic standards required for such operations.
According to Mani, intelligence reports prompted the swift enforcement action. He revealed that the plant was equipped with substandard and unhygienic tools, raising grave concerns about the safety of its products. “The items produced here cannot be trusted for quality or efficacy and pose serious risks to consumers,” he warned.
During the raid, unregistered herbal products valued at approximately ₦5 million were confiscated and marked for destruction. Mani added that the premises will remain sealed while investigations continue. He further reiterated NAFDAC’s resolve to clamp down on illegal operators and uphold its mandate of protecting public health across the country.
