Ibadan: Police Apprehend Two Suspects Accused of Preying on Uber Drivers
The Oyo State Police Command has taken two individuals into custody over their alleged involvement in a car theft ring that reportedly targets Uber drivers operating in Ibadan.
The suspects, identified as Tunde Bukola and Moyowa Faleye, were intercepted by law enforcement officers during an early morning operation on August 26, 2025, along Liberty Road.
According to sources, local vigilante groups tipped off the police about suspicious activities involving the duo. Investigations revealed a disturbing pattern — the suspects allegedly contacted ride-hailing drivers, directing them to isolated areas where the drivers were then robbed of their vehicles.
Authorities say the breakthrough came when one of the suspects used a flagged phone number, 09036731930, to book a ride. The number had previously been circulated within Uber driver groups as part of a safety alert. Upon realizing they had walked into a trap, the suspects reportedly attempted to flee by leaping out of the vehicle — but were swiftly apprehended by a police surveillance team already trailing them.
At the scene, officers recovered a bicycle handle believed to have been repurposed as a weapon to intimidate or threaten victims.
Police officials confirmed that at least two victims have already come forward to identify the suspects as the individuals responsible for separate vehicle thefts.
Investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to track down additional members of the gang and recover vehicles previously stolen in connection with the syndicate.
