Peter Obi Serves Legal Notice to Deji Adeyanju Over Alleged Defamatory Social Media Posts
Peter Obi, former presidential candidate under the Labour Party in Nigeria’s 2023 general elections, has initiated legal proceedings against lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju, accusing him of spreading damaging and unfounded allegations online.
A formal letter issued by Obi’s legal counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Alex Ejesieme, accuses Adeyanju of publishing a series of defamatory posts on social media platforms, portraying Obi as corrupt, dishonest, and intolerant. The alleged statements, dating as far back as 2022, are said to have been crafted to erode Obi’s reputation both within Nigeria and abroad.
Among the claims highlighted in the legal notice are allegations that Obi misappropriated Anambra State funds for personal and family use, tried to bribe Adeyanju following a private encounter, and exploited religious sentiments to sway voters during the presidential campaign.
Obi’s legal team has labeled the accusations as baseless and deliberately harmful. They are demanding an immediate retraction of the posts, a written apology shared across all of Adeyanju’s social media platforms, and public apologies published in at least three national newspapers.
The letter gives Adeyanju a seven-day ultimatum to comply, after which Obi will proceed with a lawsuit seeking aggravated damages, a permanent injunction to prevent further defamatory content, and full reimbursement of legal expenses.
Responding via his Facebook page, Deji Adeyanju declared his readiness to face Obi in court, signaling that a legal battle may be imminent.

This same guy called the great Sowore a blackmailer-in-chief. We served his little errand girl Serah a letter to retract all her defamatory publications on Monday against my wife & she ran to the leader of the mob for help. Can’t wait to meet him in court.”
